Parliament passes rail budget

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Parliament on Wednesday approved the Railway budget for 2008-09 with the Rajya Sabha passing it by voice vote. The Lok Sabha adopted it on Tuesday.

As he did in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad claimed sole credit for turning around the Railways under the United Progressive Alliance government.

Mr. Prasad discounted suggestions to acknowledge a role by his predecessor Nitish Kumar under the NDA government.

He conceded demands from members to increase the frequency of trains, and change track alignment to accommodate a village as well as include more stations for modernisation.
