KOCHI: Globalisation is posing danger to the education sector too, Jose Baby, Deputy Speaker, said. After inaugurating a cultural meet organised here on Wednesday as part of the 38th State meet of the All-India Students Federation, he said that the Central Planning Board had called for cutting down allocation to the education sector. He said that the development of the education sector, which was made possible by sufficient allocation by successive governments, was the basis for the all-round progress of the State. Even in the State Budget, education sector was allocated 24 per cent. He said though there was a drop in income level and shortage of resources for sector-wise allocations, it was no ground for reducing allocation for education in the State. From being a secondary objective, making profit would soon become the primary objective of big media organisations and television channels, as they would require huge capital for their successful operation, M.K. Sanoo, literary critic and orator, said. Media would be forced to spread obvious untruths for financial gains, he said. Alankode Leelakrishnan, writer, said that culture had been commercialised. Culture and education were being converted into commodities put up for sale, he said. V.P. Unnikrishnan, State Council member of the CPI, presided over the function.
