Kozhikode to host European film festival

The city has been chosen for the second successive year as one of the five Indian venues for the 13th European Union Film Festival (EUFF). The Kozhikode leg of the festival will be held from April 17 to 20.

The EUFF, which aims to bring the best of contemporary European cinema, to the Indian audience, kicks off in New Delhi on April 1. Chennai, Kolkota and Pune are the other Indian cities which would host the festival.

“We chose Kozhikode as one of the venues because of the overwhelming response from the city when we conducted the festival last year,” Meghna Singh, Media and Public Affairs Officer, Delegation of the European Commission to India, Bhutan and Nepal, told The Hindu from New Delhi on Monday.

There were good crowds for almost all the films screened last year. Films such as ‘Four Minutes’ (Germany), ‘Iberia’ (Spain), ‘Mother of Mine’ (Finland) and ‘As It Is in Heaven’ (Sweden) had made the festival memorable.

“That festival was successful and we thought this was a good way to take quality films to lovers of serious cinema ,” said Bina Paul, deputy director, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, which is a joint host of the EUFF in the State.
