Six-member yatra to capital on Pranahita-Chevella project issue
Sangareddy: A six-member group belonging to the Communist Party of India (Marxist) which was on its way from Yellampalli to Hyderabad demanding completion of Pranahita-Chevella project arrived in Chegunta on Thursday. The leader of team and State secretariat member of the party S.Veeriah speaking to The Hindu demanded that the Government prioritise the construction of irrigation projects beginning with backward areas.
He opined that the Government should have chosen Pranahitha over all other projects as it could single-handedly irrigate over 50 lakh acres in eight districts of backward Telangana region. He said that the Devadula lift irrigation project would be rendered useless for almost 290 days of every year due to lack of water and wanted the Government to take up Kantalapalli project at the earliest . The team which began its yatra on March 5 has completed its tour of Karimnagar district and reach Hyderabad on 18 via Rangareddy district.
