Prohibitory orders in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: The police have issued orders restraining political parties, trade unions and associations from holding protest demonstrations or public meetings within the town from March 14 to 28.

Announcing the decision to issue prohibitory orders, the Superintendent of Police (North), V. Vijayakumar, told reporters on Thursday that any unlawful activity during the period would be strictly dealt with. Any organisation deciding to hold protests in the town should inform the police 48 hours in advance, he said adding that they would accord permission depending on the merit of the issue.
