MALAPPURAM: Growth in education scenario will not be possible without altering the academic mindset, said E.T. Mohammed Basheer, former Minister for Education. He was inaugurating a day-long workshop on ‘Formation of college clusters and restructuring of higher education in Kerala’ at Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, on Thursday. Welcoming the initiatives by the Higher Education Council, Mr. Basheer reiterated that change was a must for the academia to keep abreast of the world. A State like Kerala has a pivotal role to perform in the evolving knowledge economies. This is possible only with productive interface with globally accepted strategies, he said. P. Mohammed, principal of Unity Women’s College, presided over the function. PresentationHe made a presentation on ‘formation of cluster of colleges.’ Achuth Shankar S. Nair, member of the Higher Education Council and convener of the Committee for Restructuring Undergraduate Courses, spoke on grading. Ashraf K.K., head of the Department of History, Unity Women’s College; K.K. Balachandran Nair, Calicut University Syndicate member; O. Abdul Ali, manager of Unity Women’s College; I.P. Abdul Razak, coordinator of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, Unity Women’s College; and C. Abdul Majeed, staff secretary at Unity Women’s College, addressed the workshop. The Kerala State Higher Education Council organised the seminar.
