Veliyam Bhargavan THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Veliyam Bhargavan has come down heavily on Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran’s statement that self-financing professional colleges would be set up in all Assembly constituencies. In a statement here on Thursday, Mr. Bhargavan pointed out that the Cooperation Minister’s announcement ran counter to the basic decency of coalition politics as it was opposed to Left Democratic Front’s (LDF) declared stand on setting up of self-financing professional colleges. Establishment of self-financing colleges in all constituencies was a matter of policy. The matter had never figured in the discussions of the LDF or the Cabinet. The declared stand of the LDF was that self-financing educational institutions should not be sanctioned indiscriminately. The general understanding within the LDF is that self-financing educational institutions should be sanctioned only after a scientific study as to where they should be set up and in what branches of learning. The Minister was making announcements and acting as he pleased without consulting the LDF, Mr. Bhargavan pointed out.
