KOCHI: The All India Students Federation (AISF) will oppose new self-financing colleges and courses in the State during the coming academic year. The State meet of the federation that concluded here on Thursday warned the government not to promote commercialisation of the education sector. T.T. Jismon, newly elected general secretary, said that the federation would launch an agitation, if the government sanctioned new self-financing colleges and courses. He said that the AISF would also oppose new self-financing institutions under the cooperative sector. Urging the government to invest more in the education sector, T. Pradeepkumar, newly elected president, said that the Education Department should introduce new programmes in tune with the latest developments in fields like science and technology. He said that the department failed to sanction new programmes in government colleges. The four-day State meet of the AISF adopted a resolution requesting the government to come up with an educational policy. The meet decided to strengthen its agitation aimed at ensuring government intervention in the education sector. The newly elected members of the federation include Jagath Jeevanlali, Anandakumar, K.R. Renish, A. Remya (vice-presidents), K.P. Sandeep, N. Arun, Sudhesh Sudhakar and Sreejith M. (joint secretaries), Shajahan, M. Anu, Abhijith Koroth, Satheesh S. Lal and Aswathy Viswan (secretariat members).
