THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister M.A. Baby said on Thursday that the reservation of posts to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in aided schools would be discussed as part of changes proposed to Kerala Education Act and Rules. Replying to a submission from T.N. Pratapan (Congress) and B. Raghavan (CPI(M) in the Assembly, the Minister said that the issue needed to be considered on a priority basis. Central moveNoting that the Central government was even considering reservation in the private sector, Mr. Baby said that the Centre should bring a law specifying reservation in all institutions funded by the government. Responding to a submission from K.A. Jaleel (Muslim League), the Minister said that the government was examining whether a centre for A-level examination equivalent to SSLC examination could be granted in each block. The number of centres had already been increased and steps would be taken to see that the examination is held in April itself. Replying to a Calling Attention raised by M. Ummer (Muslim League), Mr. Baby said proposals had been mooted for upgrading of 124 of the 487 multigrade learning centres in the State to lower primary schools. Many of these centres had less than 100 pupils and that came in the way of their upgrading. As per rules, each class should have a minimum of 25 pupils.
