Chandigarh: After over two months of legal tussle, Haryana Assembly Speaker Raghubir Singh Kadian on Thursday disqualified two sitting rebel Congress legislators Dharam Pal Singh Malik and Rakesh Kamboj, considered to be close aides of former chief minister Bhajan Lal under the anti-defection law from the State Vidhan Sabha. Pronouncing his two separate orders in his room in the State Assembly here, the Speaker said, “Dharam Pal Singh Malik and Rakesh Kamboj ceases to be Member of State Vidhan Sabha with immediate effect in terms of Article 191 (2) read with tenth schedule of the Constitution read with the Haryana Legislative Asembly (disqualification of members on ground of defection) rules 1986.” The Speaker further pronounced that “both the MLAs are disqualified from the membership of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha with immediate effect though they had voluntarily left the memberships of the Indian National Congress on December 2, 2007, the party on whose ticket they were elected.” PTI
