Hectic activity in Aler ahead of bypoll

S. Ramu

ALER (NALGONDA DT.): All mainstream political parties have swiftly come into election mode in Aler Assembly segment following the indications of by-election necessitated by the resignation of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLA K. Nagesh along with 16 other legislators.

Public meeting

The ruling party leaders’ aim at this juncture is to scuttle the moves of Telangana Development Board chairman and Ramannapet MLA V.Purushottam Reddy, who is organising a public meeting at Bhongir on March 24. Minister for Information Technology, Youth Affairs and Sports R. Damodar Reddy, the newly appointed in-charge of the constituency, has started firing salvoes against Mr. Purushottam Reddy.

At the behest of the Chief Minister, the DCC president S. Mallesh Goud is also meeting top leaders in a bid to dissuade the party cadres from attending the public meeting. Undeterred by his disciple Mallesh Goud’s decision to shift loyalties, Mr. Purushottam Reddy is leaving no stone unturned to make the meeting a grand success. Mr. Reddy, who has been spearheading a Telangana caucus for a long time, acknowledged the fact that there is a strong Telangana wave in Aler.

Mr. Nagesh, a doctor by profession, is also gearing up for the battle. The former Minister and TD spokesperson Mothkupalli Narasimhulu has almost launched his campaign. It remains to be seen whether Mr. Narasimhulu, a powerful Dalit leader, takes advantage of the situation and retain the seat by defeating Nagesh, his rival in the last three elections. The two Communist parties don’t have much say in this particular constituency, observers feel.
