Tenure of D-G Police fixed for two years To be selected by a three-member panel LUCKNOW: In a decision aimed at improving the work culture of the police in Uttar Pradesh, the Bahujan Samaj Party Government on Thursday decided to set up a State Security Commission. The Commission would be headed by Chief Minister Mayawati. The Government also fixed the tenure of the Director-General of Police, who will now occupy the post for two years. The police chief would be selected by a three-member committee comprising the State Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary (Home) and the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister. Announcing this, Principal Secretary (Home) J. N. Chamber said the Chairman of the State Advisory Board (Satish Chandra Mishra), a representative of the State Human Rights Commission nominated by the State Government, the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretary of the Home Department and two persons nominated by the Government would be the members of the State Security Commission. The D-G Police will be its member-secretary. Mr. Chamber said the Commission would advise the Government on formulation of policies and directives for making the police an effective and accountable force. It would also advise the Government on preventive measures to be taken by the police, assessment of performance indicators. These indicators include work efficiency, satisfaction of the people, accountability, judicious use of resources and human rights, the Home official said.
