SHIMLA: The Himachal University Teachers’ Association has urged Vice-Chancellor Anil Wilson to reconsider his decision to resign “if taken under any pressure”. Mr. Wilson, who was the Principal of Delhi University’s prestigious St. Stephen’s College earlier, had become popular with the teachers and students here for his professional approach towards academics. Though he has citied personal reasons for his resignation, Himachal Pradesh University Teachers’ Association sources have been insisting that “constant political pressure on him can also not be ruled out after the change in the government here”. According to the State unit of the CPI (M), “clandestine coercion by the BJP government” had forced him to resign. In a statement, party secretary Rakesh Singha said this was the second step towards saffronisation of educational institutions in the hill State, the first being the permission granted to RSS to hold “shakhas” in government schools.
