LUCKNOW: The Union Minister of State for Home, Sri Prakash Jaiswal, on Thursday indicated that the Central Bureau of Investigation might take up the compact disc (CD) case. The case was referred to the CBI by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday. Mr. Jaiswal told newspersons at the Congress headquarters here that the letter from the State Government recommending a CBI probe had not been received yet. “When it comes, serious thought would be given to it,” he said. The Union Minister rejected Ms. Mayawati’s charge that the Congress Government in Maharashtra had a hand in the making of the controversial CD. He said CDs are generally made in metros and the Government is not a party to it. About the eight cases referred to the CBI by the UP Government so far, Mr. Jaiswal said the State wanted to wash its hands off these cases, which is why the recommendations had been made. The CBI, he added, only took up cases on issues in which one or more States were involved.
