KSPHC to build cost-effective dwellings

MANGALORE: The Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation Limited (KSPHC) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to execute a slum development project for the latter.

The project is being taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funds allocated by the Centre, Chairman and Managing Director of KSPHC R. Srikumar has said.

Mr. Srikumar told The Hindu here on Tuesday that the corporation would construct cost-effective dwelling units for residents of slums in Bangalore on behalf of BBMP as per the proposed MoU.

“We will execute part of the work of constructing such units in the 13 slums in Bangalore at an estimated cost of Rs. 50 crore,” he said.

Terming this development as recognition of the expertise of the corporation in constructing low cost buildings, Mr. Srikumar said the corporation could consider taking up similar projects in the State at a later date. Stating that the MoU was presently with the BBMP authorities, Mr. Srikumar said the corporation would evaluate the project once completed and try and replicate the same model for similar projects in Karnataka.

He said police housing corporations in Punjab and Delhi too have evinced keen interest in web-based project monitoring system (PMS) developed by the KSPHC that has got ISO 9001-2000 certification for its quality management system.

“They have approached the corporation to take us aboard as consultants for their respective projects and also monitor the various works being taken up them,” he said.

On the e-tendering initiative, he said KSPHC has been taking up the tendering process for the departments of fisheries, forests, and hostels run by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes department.
