Rice procurement more this year
NEW DELHI: The government’s procurement agencies have so far procured 20.85 million tonnes of rice in the current kharif marketing season.
This was against the 19.83 million tonnes procured in the corresponding period last year.
During the entire marketing season last year (from October 2006-September 2007), a total of 25.08 MT rice was procured.
States that have procured more than one million tonne rice in the current kharif season include: Punjab (procured 7.69 MT), Andhra Pradesh (3.3 MT), Chhattisgarh (2.64 MT), Uttar Pradesh (2.52 MT), Haryana (1.56 MT) and Orissa (1.46 MT).
