LIVING OUT HIS DREAM: A youngster dabbles with the football in a simulated environment of Old Trafford during a promotional event in Mysore on Thursday. MYSORE: For the football aficionados practicing at the Doddakere Maidan opposite the exhibition grounds in the city, it was both a shock and a surprise that shored up their zest for the game to live their dreams. And from the rustic surroundings that added to the ambience of heat and dust, the sweating players were instantly transported to the lush green outfield of Manchester United’s Old Trafford. The instant transformation of the stage was due to the arrival of the Budweiser 6v6 Roadshow that came to Mysore on Thursday and gave a glimpse of the excitement in offing. The Bud Cup truck that reached the grounds is a custom-made vehicle that recreated the magic of Old Trafford stadium and featured football memorabilia, registration forms for up to 6 players to register as a team and participate in the unique international tournament. The Bud Cup truck is on a 5-week road show across Maharasthtra, Goa, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. As the organisers explained: “With this roadshow, we want to reach out to the football fans by introducing them to this exciting six-on-six amateur football tournament.” As the road show moves on, the registration will be open till March 23 after which 24 teams each from the above States and 200 teams from Goa will be chosen through a lucky draw followed by regional eliminations on April 5 and 6. The winning team will represent India and the players will live the dream of playing against teams from 17 other countries at Old Trafford on May 5. All matches will be played out in the popular 20 minute 6 on 6 format The tournament gives amateur players all over the world an exposure and an opportunity to live their dreams and play at the home turf of Manchester United which is Old Trafford.
