Buddhadeb seeks report on treatment of women patients

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has sought a detailed report from the State’s Heath department on women patients of the government-run Pavlov Mental Hospital in the city reportedly being kept naked on the pretext that their clothes had been sent to the laundry.

The matter was raised by Trinamool Congress MLA Sonali Guha in the West Bengal Assembly during the mention hour on Thursday.

Referring to the media report Ms. Guha said that a doctor of the hospital who had protested against such treatment of female patients had been asked to go on leave. “If what the report says about the hospital is correct, it is shocking,” the Chief Minister said.

He had instructed the State’s health department to submit a detailed report on the matter.

Necessary action will be taken if the report corroborated the one published in the media.
