HYDERABAD: Aspirants for the Congress ticket for the Rajya Sabha remained on tenterhooks on Thursday, as the All India Congress Committee named only two nominees -- T. Subbarami Reddy and Nandi Yellaiah -- whereas the party is in a position to easily elect five members. What was significant was that the name of K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao, Advisor (Public Affairs), who is a close confidante of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy does not figure in the first list. Mr. Rao’s candidature was considered a surety since Dr. Reddy had gone on record to say that he would pitch for his friend who has been unsuccessful two times earlier in getting the ticket. Mr. Subbarami Reddy, who is the Union Minister of State for Mines, was elected to the Lok Sabha two times from Visakhapatnam constituency before being elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2002. Mr. Nandi Yellaiah is also getting a second chance to enter the portals of the Rajya Sabha. He represented the Siddipet Lok Sabha constituency five times in his career spanning five decades.
