NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday announced the renomination of four Union Ministers and three AICC office-bearers for the March 26 biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha. Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and Minister of State (Prime Minister’s Office) Prithviraj Chavan were renominated from Maharashtra, while Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy and Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G. K. Vasan will contest from Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively. Mr. Reddy was renominated despite reports that his nephew and media baron Venkataram Reddy was also in the reckoning. AICC treasurer Motilal Vora has been renominated from Chhattisgarh. AICC spokesperson and former Minister of State Jayanthi Natarajan has been nominated from Tamil Nadu. The newly appointed Mahila Congress president Prabha Thakur has been renominated from Rajasthan. The other candidates are: Nandi Yellaiah (Andhra Pradesh), the former Puducherry Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi (Arunachal Pradesh), M.A. Khan (Andhra Pradesh), Alkaben Kshatriya (Gujarat), S.C. Marak (Meghalaya), Bhubaneshwar Kalita (Assam), Ram Prakash (Haryana), the former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing (Manipur) and AICC secretary R.C. Khuntia (Orissa). But for Mr. Mithi, Mr. Kalita and Mr. Khuntia, all have been renominated. The Congress has also nominated members for three legislative council seats in Maharashtra — Sudhakar Gangane, Shivajirao Deshmukh and Jayaprakash Chhajed — and for the lone seat in Bihar, the former State Minister, Jyoti.
