The first of the workshop will start with Bharatanatyam on March 22. Talking to reporters here on Wednesday, Usha Venkateshwaran, Natyalakshana Director, said the objective of conducting the workshops was to retain classical dance forms. “We have to educate the present generation and inspire them to continue the tradition. Understanding the dance forms will help in appreciating the art in a deeper sense and understand its nuances,” she said. Lalita Ubhayaker of the cultural centre said the workshop series will be spread over a year and will cover Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi, Mohiniattam and Manipuri dance. The workshops, which are tailored for the dancers, will be open for all. ExpertsThe workshops will be conducted by experts from each of the art forms and each workshop will have performance by a senior dancer and the teacher. The workshop series will begin with Bharatanatyam to be conducted by well known teacher Adyar Lakshman of Chennai.
