KOCHI: A national workshop on Hortus Malabaricus (a treatise that deals with medicinal properties of Kerala flora) will be held on Friday and Saturday at the EMS Memorial Town Hall here. The workshop has been organised jointly by the National Museum of Natural History, Mysore, and the Corporation of Cochin. Addressing mediapersons at the Ernakulam Press Club on Thursday, E.M. Sunil Kumar, chairman of the Town Planning Committee of the Corporation, said Hortus Malabaricus was increasingly being relied upon to argue cases relating to patenting ethnic produce of the State, which has rich bio-diversity. He said the Centre may allot Rs.10 crore to the Corporation of Cochin under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission scheme to set up a history museum in Kochi. “An accredited agency is required to prepare the project report,” he said.
