Schoolboy drowns in temple tank
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: A 10-year-old boy allegedly drowned in the Parthasarathy Swamy temple tank in Triplicane on Wednesday evening.
Police identified the victim as M.Vimalraj, a resident of B. V. Naicker Street in Triplicane and a Standard V student. Preliminary investigations revealed that when Vimalraj and his friend Nanda were playing near the tank, Nanda might have slipped inside the tank. In a bid to save him, Vimalraj might have jumped, but was drowned.
While Nanda was spotted by some passers-by and rushed to a private hospital in an unconscious condition, Vimalraj’s body was identified only on Thursday morning.
Constable held
A police constable and his accomplice were arrested on charges of stealing a two-wheeler in Thirumullaivoyal on Thursday. Constable Annamalai (32) and Dharani (23) were caught red-handed by some residents of Thirumullaivoyal when they took off on a two-wheeler parked outside a house after forcing open its lock. The residents gave a chase and managed to catch up with the duo.
