Sonia Gandhi touring State today

HYDERABAD: All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi is arriving here on Friday on a whirlwind tour of the State.

During her hectic day-long visit, Ms. Gandhi will first dedicate the Pushkaram Lift Irrigation project to the nation and address a public meeting at Jaggampet in East Godavari district at 12.30 p.m. She will visit J. Chokka Rao Lift Irrigation project (Devadula) in Warangal district at 3.05 p.m.

Ms. Gandhi would then come to Hyderabad and inaugurate the new Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 4.50 p.m and leave for New Delhi.

Joint venture

The greenfield airport at Shamshabad, 22 km from here, is built on private- public partnership mode by joint venture GMR Group and MAHB, State Government and Airports Authority of India. Expected to give a boost to airport infrastructure in the country, the Rs. 2,300 crore airport has been developed to handle big aircraft and 12 million passengers a year in the first phase.

Ms Gandhi will have her first aerial glimpse of the dam site of the Polavaram mega project which is in full swing.

Ahead of her arrival, both Devadula and Pushakara are haunted by teething troubles like pipeline leakages.
