Ryot suicides continue in Chittoor district

Special Correspondent

TIRUPATI: As many as five debt-ridden farmers committed suicide in Chittoor district.

They committed suicide rather ironically after the Central government announced its loan waiver scheme. Mallikarjuna Reddy (30) of Lakkanapalle village in Byreddipalle mandal hung himself to death on Tuesday unable to clear the loan he had reportedly taken from a ‘private’ source to dig a borewell in his farm.

The other farmer was identified as Murugaiah (45) of Tulasikrishnapuram Dailtvada in the Pichchatur mandal who was depressed over the damage to sun-flower crop .
