BJP welcomes loan waiver for farmers

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: The Bharatiya Janata Party will organise its ‘Rythu Poru Bata’ programme in Krishna district on Sunday. Senior leader M. Venkaiah Naidu, party State president Bandaru Dattatreya and several others would participate in a road show from Vijayawada to Jaggayyapet, which would begin at 8 a.m. The programme would end with a public meeting at Jaggayyapeta at 11 a.m.

Poster released

A poster about the programme was released in the party office on Thursday by party city president Laka Vengalarao Yadav. He said that the BJP had welcomed the loan waiver scheme announced by the Union Government for farmers all over the country, but the same must be extended to all farmers to give them a relief of at least Rs. 50,000. He wanted the government to ensure agriculture remained remunerative in the coming years.

If Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations were implemented in letter and spirit, the government would be able to improve the lot of farmers. It would also go a long way in generating confidence among the farming community. Support prices for farm produce should be at least 50 per cent above the cost of production.
