Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: K.B. Arun Karthick and S. Suresh Kumar struck centuries — two of five scored on the second day of the ninth round in the TNCA first division cricket league — as Grand Slam dominated IOB at the ICL-Guru Nanak college ground.

Arun Karthick (141, 213b, 7x4) and S. Suresh Kumar (140 n.o., 192b, 15x4) put on 213 for the second wicket to help Grand Slam build a first-innings lead of 150 on Thursday.

IOB was earlier dismissed for 172. Seamers P. Amarnath and M. Raja split eight wickets.

At IIT-Chemplast, R. Ashwin’s unbeaten 196-ball 109 (9x4) enabled Jolly Rovers pass the Parry’s first-innings score of 235. Ashwin, who batted at three, added 125 with Petson Mathews for the third wicket. Rovers left-arm seamer R. Suthesh had earlier cleaned up the Parry’s tail to finish with three wickets.

Aruna off-spinner P. Sakthi continued his wicket-taking form, scalping five to help dismiss Eagle for 224 at Murugappa. M. Santhosh Gopi, who resumed on 46, fell three short of a hundred.

E. Arun Kumar made 122 (259b, 18x4) at CPT-IP as India Pistons scored 253 for seven on a rain-affected day. V. Yomahesh took four wickets for Globe Trotters.

R. Prasanna hit six sixes in his 111 (185b, 11x4) after Vijay was inserted by Alwarpet at SRMC. Left-hander K. Shri Vasudevadas remained unbeaten on 65 as Vijay ended on 326 for six. J. Kaushik took three for 61.

Only 12 overs were possible when the match between Indian Bank and Young Stars got underway on day two at RKM-Vivekananda. Bank made 28 without loss.
