HYDERABAD: Dashing batsman Robin Uthappa feels that the controversies on the recent Australian tour only made the Indians more united and emerge stronger. Speaking to the media here on Thursday at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium (Uppal) where he was practising for South Zone ahead of the Deodhar Trophy match against East Zone, Uthappa said that the Indians played exceptional cricket and were deserving winners. “Personally it was a huge challenge for me to respond and adjust to the specific roles assigned to me on the tour. I am happy with the way things have gone and at the end of the tour I am delighted that we have at last won a one-day tournament in Australia after 1985,” he said. “The youngsters with their performances have shown that Indian cricket is in safe hands,” Uthappa added. “We responded to a given situation or a crisis better than many expected us to.” Commenting on the forthcoming South African series, the Karnataka batsman felt that it would be a totally different ball game. “Every game is different and important. Personally, I am ready for the huge challenge of doing well against them,” he said. “We have a superb batting line-up with Sachin, Rahul, Sourav and V.V.S. Laxman at the top. We are confident of a winning performance. It should be an exciting series (against South Africans) and this Deodhar Trophy should also give some of those on the verge of breaking into the national team, a huge opportunity to prove a point or two.”
