Anup, Saina move up

BANGALORE: Anup Sridhar beat World No. 17 Shoji Sato of Japan 22-20, 13-21, 21-14 in the first round of the Wilson Swiss Open Super Series at Basel on Wednesday.

In the women’s singles opening round, Saina Nehwal defeated Anna Rice of Canada 21-13, 21-13.

Earlier in the men’s qualifying round, Arvind Bhat lost to Yu Hsin Hsieh of Chinese Taipei 12-21, 18-21.

In another match Peter Koukal of Czech Republic beat Chetan Anand 21-16, 21-19. — Special Correspondent
