Reviving art forms

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: The Vayali Folk Group, which consists of a group of young people from Thrissur, Kerala committed to protecting the local and indigenous knowledge of that State, especially the Valluvanadan culture and tradition, will be performing in Bangalore on Saturday.

The members of Vayali are doing their part to preserve cultural and indigenous knowledge that reflect the temperaments and moods of the localities through music and costumes. They have organised a performing group to share their experience and cultural heritage with the youth of today’s modern world where traditional art forms are on the verge of extinction.

The group had its modest beginnings in 2003, where eminent folklorists from Nattarivu Padana Kendram, Thrissur gave them guidance and support to achieve their goals. Vayali is also affiliated to the Kerala Sangeeth Nadaka Academy, the Indira Gandhi Centre for Arts, New Delhi, the National Folklore Support Centre and the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur. The Vayali Folk Group is performing at Opus, off Palace Road, at 9 p.m. Visit www.vayali.org or call Ph: 9880755875 or 9845220282 for more details.
