Waste treatment

KOCHI: The Ernakulam district panchayat has plans to set up garbage treatment- cum- electricity generation plants in all grama panchayats as part of the “waste free Kerala project”.

The district panchayat decided to extend the project to 18 more grama panchayats during the current fiscal.

The move comes in the wake of the success of similar plants in the Piravom, Nedumbassery, Kalady, Amballoor and Rayamangalam grama panchayats during the first phase.

Fisheries Minister S. Sarma will inaugurate a plant being set up at Thrikkakkara market on Saturday at 10 a.m.

P.S. Shyla, district panchayat president, will preside over the meeting. K. Babu, MLA, will deliver the keynote address.
