PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry government has reconstituted the complaints committee on sexual harassment in workplaces in all four regions of the Union Territory. According to an official release, the move became necessary in view of vacancies arising in the complaints committees. An order was issued on March 12. The committees were formed in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions on September 20, 2000, by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (Personnel Wing) in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court regarding prevention of sexual harassment of women in workplaces in the case of Vishaka and others-Vs-State of Rajasthan and others. The three-member complaints committee for Puducherry region would have Chand Sulthana, Director of Women and Child Development, as chairperson. The panel in Karaikal would be headed by Deputy Director of Planning and Research Shantha Williams. Rajalakshmi, Joint Block Development Officer of Pallur, would serve as the chairperson of the reconstituted panel. In Yanam region, Assistant Employment Officer G. Gouri Saroja would head the complaints committee.
