DAVANGERE: The Davangere Zilla Panchayat has decided to help educated unemployed youth to get a loan of Rs. 25,000 from nationalised banks by April end. Zilla panchayat president Ramappa, who was presiding over a review meeting here on Friday, said a large number of youth had approached him either for jobs or for loans to set up small shops. The youth had complained to him that the nationalised banks had rejected their applications without any reason. The zilla panchayat had an obligation to serve the rural youth of the district and he said it would take up the matter with nationalised banks. He said that youth, if not given jobs or loans to set up business, could be drawn to anti-social activities. Mr. Ramappa urged the Lead Bank manager Vishwanath to hold a meeting and impress upon bank officials to provide loans to unemployed youth. He also asked the Executive Officers of six taluk panchayats to prepare a list of at least 1,000 rural educated youth seeking financial assistance to set up petty business.
