Belgaum: Kannada Development Authority Chairman Siddalingaiah has said that he will urge the State Government to accord priority to candidates from villages in the borders areas of the State in its recruitments. Dr. Siddalingaiah, who visited a few villages in Athani taluk on Friday, told presspersons at Mangasuli village that offering jobs to such candidates would help the Government in developing the Kannada language and inspiring non-Kannada speaking people to learn Kannada. Expressing concern over the poor condition of roads in villages, particularly in border areas of north Karnataka, he urged the Government to sanction special grants for the purpose. He said that some villages faced a shortage of drinking water. Many schools had inadequate number of classrooms and teachers. The KDA was distributing Kannada language books free of cost in schools on border areas of the State. It had distributed 50,000 books. Dr. Sidalingaiah discussed the problems faced by the people of border areas with members of the Mangasuli Gram Panchayat. Panchayat president Susheela Patil and officials were present.
