Gupthan for dissolution of Travancore Devaswom Board

Radhakrishnan Kuttoor

Accuses two board members and certain top board officials of non-cooperation

Says he has not been consulted for scheduling the agenda for board meetings

PATHANAMTHITTA: Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president C.K. Gupthan has said he will recommend dissolution of the board to the government in the backdrop of the prevailing administrative stalemate in the temple administrative body.

Talking to The Hindu, Mr. Gupthan said, “absence of any definite norms or rules for convening the board meeting has been the main problem, leading to the sad state of affairs with it, since the past few months.”

He said the TDB president had never been consulted in the preparation of agenda for the board meeting, against the basic norm that the agenda notes should have the president’s assent.

The TDB chief alleged that many an affidavit before the High Court had been filed without his knowledge or consent, allegedly leading to some sort of a misinformation campaign against the TDB.

Mr. Gupthan said he was for the decentralisation of power in the TDB through delegation of powers to officers at different levels in the administrative matters of various temples attached to it, instead of the prevailing system insisted on seeking the Board’s permission for each and every essential purchase at a major or minor temple. “Promptly pointing out the flaws and faults with the present system of TDB administration that provides enough room for corruption, nepotism and mismanagement was my mistake,” he said.

Tirupati-model

He said the structure of the proposed Tirupati-model administrative body for Sabarimala was getting ready. According to him, the proposed Sabarimala Devasthanam would be a foolproof authority.
