TIRUVARUR: The State Tourism Department has allotted Rs.7 crore for taking up tourism improvement works in Chola Nattu Thirupathigal, Tourism and Culture Secretary V. Irai Anbu has said.
A sum of Rs.3.15 crore has been allotted for improving Sapthvidanga sthalams, he told presspersons here on Thursday.
Rameswaram
A sum of Rs.1.70 crore has been allotted for tourism development works in Rameswaram, Rs.1 crore for Grand Anicut, Rs.5 crore for Mamallapuram, Rs.31.95 lakh for Manora, Rs.4 crore for Elagiri and Rs.4.5 crore for Yercaud.
In order to ensure proper patronage of folk artistes and cordial treatment of foreign tourists, the tourism and culture departments have been integrated, Mr. Irai Anbu said.
Training programme
He inaugurated a tourism awareness training programme for autorickshaw drivers, hoteliers and guides in Tiruvarur.
The Tourism Secretary also inaugurated membership enrolment of the Folk Artistes Welfare Board.
Tourism Commissioner M. Rajaram and Collector M. Chandrasekaran participated in the functions.
