Slow progress: Constructed about two years ago, this half completed structure was to be a public convenience facility for the residents of 46 Pudur Panchayat, near Erode. —
ERODE: Off Modakurichi Road in 46 Pudur Panchayat stands an incomplete building, in testimony to the tardy implementation of a sanitation project.
No roof
Sources in the village say the structure, half plastered, has remained in that condition for at least two years. It was constructed during the last local body elections, they add. With no roof, the structure has come of no use for other purposes as well.
The panchayat president, R. Prakash, has, however, a different story to narrate. He says the toilet has not been completed because there are no takers for public convenience facility in the panchayat.
He adds that the stress is now on toilets in houses and that the local body has been actively pushing it in every household in the area.
