Opening talk: Public Works Minister Mons Joseph inaugurating a seminar on standardisation of Ayurvedic drugs in Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. Thiruvananthapuram: The acute shortage of raw materials required for manufacturing Ayurveda drugs and the huge hike in the price of available raw materials are major problems facing the Ayurveda drug manufacturing industry now, Nagesh Prabhu, managing director of Oushadhi, the government-owned Ayurveda medicine manufacturing unit, has said. He was delivering the keynote address at the national seminar on Ayurveda Drug Standardisation, organised by Shantigiri Ayurveda and Sidha Vaidyasala here on Friday. The two-day seminar will discuss the issues involved in standardisation of Ayurveda drugs, including the effects when traditional Ayurveda medicine concepts are adapted to modern practices. Those who spoke on various topics included managing director of Pankajakasthuri J. Harindran Nair, Ayurveda Drugs Controller T. Sivadas, Medical Education Director (Ayurveda) Shibi, K. Sankaran. Earlier, inaugurating the seminar, PWD Minister Mons Joseph said that the State had the potential to come up in the area of Ayurveda drug manufacturing in a big way, given the active support of the State and the Ayush Department under the Union Health Ministry. He also praised the role played by Shantigiri in promoting India’s medicine systems. The valedictory function to be held on Saturday will be inaugurated by Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta.
