dated March 15, 1958: Cabinet reshuffle

The appointment of Mr. Morarji Desai as Finance Minister was announced on March 13. The portfolio of Commerce and Industry which Mr. Morarji Desai held has been allotted to Mr. Lal Bahadur Shatri, Minister for Transport and Communication. Mr. S.K. Patil, hitherto Minister for Irrigation and Power, takes over Transport and Communications. A new addition to the cabinet is Mr. Hafiz Mohammed Ibrahim, who has been given the portfolio of Irrigation and Power. Mr. B. Gopala Reddi, Finance Minister in Andhra Pradesh, has been brought to the Centre as Minister of State. He will be in charge of the Economic Affairs wing of the Finance Ministry.
