Uproar in Patna over killing of RJD men

Patna: The Bihar Legislative Council on Friday witnessed uproarious scenes with slogan-shouting Opposition RJD members trooping into the well of the House protesting the alleged spurt in killing of its party activists.

As the House sat for the day, RJD MLC Mundrika Singh Yadav raised the issue of killing of party supporter Mohammed Ekra in Patna City on Thursday and wanted to know from the chair the fate of the adjournment notice submitted by him to the Council secretariat.

As Chairman Arun Kumar advised the agitated member to raise the issue during zero-hour to allow him to take up the listed short-notice questions, RJD MLCs created a ruckus and stormed into the well of the House shouting anti-government slogans.

They alleged that despite rise in the cases of killing of RJD activists, the State Government was sitting “idle.”

Mr. Kumar placated the Opposition members by assuring that their grievances would be heard during zero hour as the din continued for 15 minutes. The agitated members obeyed the Chair and returned to their seats.

‘RJD men targetted’

During zero-hour, party MLC Bhim Singh once again raised the issue and alleged that his partymen were “being deliberately targetted and killed.”

Opposition Leader in the House Gulam Gaus alleged that several RJD leaders were killed in Bhagalpur and other districts in recent past “but the government is not doing anything.”

The Chairman, however, rejected the adjournment notice of Mundrika Singh on the killing of Ekram ruling that it (notice) was “not in accordance with rule”.

At the same time, he directed the State Government to make a statement on the issue on Friday itself. -- PTI
