Hu led China’s reform, says forum

BEIJING: The First Session of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) concluded on Friday, adopting resolutions and stressing the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) over the CPPCC.

Jia Qinglin, who was re-elected Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the closing meeting. Mr. Jia urged political advisers to adhere to the two main themes of unity and democracy and “unite all forces that can be united” to contribute to the building of a prosperous society.

CPC and state leaders Hu Jintao, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Zeng Qinghong, Li Changchun and others attended the opening and closing sessions. A political resolution adopted at the closing meeting hailed China’s development over the past five years, saying the CPC Central Committee — with Mr. Hu as general secretary — had led people of all ethnic groups in advancing reform, opening up and modernisation. — Xinhua
