MCD senior officials meet

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In the light of the Supreme Court verdict allowing construction of third floors in the Capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has convened a meeting of its senior officers for implementing the decision.

In a statement on Friday, MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said the meeting would be attended by officers of the Building Department and would serve out directions to the 12 zones of the civic body on the verdict. “The Supreme Court has granted permission to construct the ground, first, second and third floors and we will soon start sanctioning building plans for the third floor. It is a great decision that will provide major relief to the general public,” said Mr. Gupta.

MCD House leader Subhash Arya said: “The Court has also accepted our decision to allow self-governance by property offenders urging them to stop misuse within 45 days.”

“The Court has also upheld our request of not charging a ten-time penalty from traders who have not paid conversion charges or registered their shops, ” he added.
