KOCHI: A two-day national conference on ‘self-financing professional educational institutions and role of the State’ organised by the School of Legal Studies at the Cochin University of Science and Technology, began here on Friday. Gangan Prathap, Vice-Chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology, inaugurated the programme. He said that social justice should be ensured in the higher education sector. Dr. Prathap also stressed the need to provide more access to higher education in the country. In his keynote address, Joy Job Kulavelil, syndicate member of Cochin University, said that agencies like the World Bank were gaining control over the educational scene in the country. He said that higher education had become inaccessible to the common man. D. Rajeev, Director of the School of Legal Studies, V.S. Sebastian, faculty member, and A.K.
