Two killed and 25 injured in road accident

TIRUCHI: Two persons including a 50-year-old woman were killed and 25 others sustained injuries in a road accident involving a Minidor and a government bus on the Tiruchi – Dindigul national highway at Ponnambalapatti, a few kilometres from Vaiyampatti in the district on Friday. The victims were identified as V. Pappammal and Minidor driver M. Srinivasan (35), both from Ayyalur in Dindigul district.
Police sources said a group of people were returning to their villages in Dindigul district after attending a temple festival at Veerappur when the vehicle hit the Tiruchi-bound bus from Dindigul.
Pappammal died on the way to hospital, while Srinivasan succumbed to injuries at a private hospital in Dindigul. The injured have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Tiruchi. The Vaiyampatti police have registered a case. Transport Minister K.N. Nehru and Collector T. Soundaiah called on the injured at the hospital.
