Rengarajan files nomination papers for Rajya Sabha seat

G.K. Vasan, Jayanthi Natarajan to file papers today
|
CHENNAI: T.K. Rengarajan, member of the central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Friday handed over his nomination papers to the Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha elections and Assembly Secretary, M. Selvaraj, at the Secretariat.
Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin, CPI (M) State secretary N. Varadarajan, Congress leaders D. Sudarsanam, Peter Alphonse and B.S. Gnanadesikan, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol. Thirumavalvan were among those present. Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation G.K.Vasan and Congress party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan will file their nomination papers on Saturday.
Mr.Vasan told The Hindu that he was honoured by the party’s decision to re-nominate him.
Thanking Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the gesture, he said he would continue to work for the welfare of the party and serve the people.
Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan said, “It is a privilege to have been nominated as a candidate and I will strive to propagate the core values of the Indian National Congress and for the development of the country.”
Mr. Rengarajan, Mr. Vasan and Ms. Jayanthi Natarajan called on Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi separately.
