Raguram scalps five

CHENNAI: Left-arm spinner R. Raguram’s five-wicket haul helped Eagle challenge Aruna for the first-innings lead on the final day of the ninth-round TNCA first division league cricket match at the Murugappa ground.

But Aruna held firm to split points with Eagle. S.R. Ganesh Kumar top-scored with 44.

In the other match that had play on Friday, Grand Slam declared its first innings on 404 for six against IOB. S. Suresh Kumar, resuming on 140, scored 167 to tally 590 runs in nine games. K.B. Arun Karthick, who made 141 on Thursday, had earlier crossed 600 runs. Grand Slam earned five points to lead the standings.

Rain washed out the third day of the remaining ninth-round matches. Jolly Rovers took five points from its match against Parry’s, having secured the first innings lead on Thursday, while the points were shared in the other encounters.

The scores:

Parry’s 235 drew with Jolly Rovers 236 for six in 74 overs, at IIT-Chemplast. Points: Rovers 5, Parry’s 2.

IOB 172 drew with Grand Slam 404 for six decl. in 107 overs (K.B. Arun Karthick 141, S. Suresh Kumar 167), at ICL-Guru Nanak. Points: GS 5, IOB 2.

Eagle 224 drew with Aruna 127 for six in 40 overs (Noor-ul-Riaz 40, S.R. Ganesh Kumar 44, R. Raguram five for 30), at Murugappa. Points: Eagle 3, Aruna 3.

India Pistons 253 for seven in 89.3 overs drew with Globe Trotters, at CPT-IP. Points: IP 3, Trotters 3.

Vijay 326 for six in 88 overs drew with Alwarpet, at SRMC. Points: Vijay 3, Alwarpet 3.

Indian Bank 28 for no loss in 12 overs drew with Young Stars, at RKM-Vivekananda. Points: Bank 3, Young Stars 3.

Standings after the ninth round: Grand Slam 43 pts, Jolly Rovers 41 pts, Vijay 37 pts, Alwarpet and Aruna 35 pts, Globe Trotters 33 pts, Parry’s 31 pts, India Pistons 30 pts, Indian Bank 28 pts, Young Stars 26 pts, IOB 25 pts, Eagle 14 pts.

TDCA selection trials

The selection trials for the Thiruvallur District Cricket Association (TDCA) will be held at the Jaya Engineering College ground as per the following schedule:

U-13 (Cut-off date September 1, 1995) and U-14 (Cut-off date September 1, 1994): 2.30 p.m. on April 14; U-15 (Cut-off date September 1, 1993) and U-16 (Cut-off date September 1, 1992): 6.30 a.m. on April 14; U-19 (Cut-off date September 1, 1989): 6.30 a.m. on April 13; U-22 (Cut-off date September 1, 1986) and U-25 (Cut-off date September 1, 1983): 2.30 p.m. on April 13; Seniors: 2.30 p.m. on April 13.

Women’s U-19 (September 1, 1989) and seniors: 6.30 a.m. on April 14.

TTC ‘A’ in final

TTC ‘A’ and Indira Nagar ‘C’, which finished as the top two teams, will clash in the ‘F’ Zone final of the SANMAR TNTA tennis league, here.
