Sridhar and Saina lose

BANGALORE: Anup Sridhar and Saina Nehwal bowed out of the Wilson Swiss Open badminton Super Series at Basel, losing their second round matches on Thursday.

Sridhar, who met World No. 7 Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia, hurt his foot during the match and was forced to concede the tie, trailing 9-11 in the first game.

China’s Xie Xingfang, the top seed, proved too good for National women’s champion Saina and won 21-13, 21-10.

In the women’s doubles first round, Vita and Liliyana of Indonesia defeated Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien 21-18, 21-17.
