Troughs of low pressure reason for change in weather

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The change in weather during the last 24 hours in the city and different parts of the State has been attributed to two simultaneous troughs of low pressure at sea level along the south-east Bay of Bengal off the Sri Lanka-Tamil Nadu coast and another off the south-western Arabian Sea.

According to sources in the Met Department here, there was also an upper air circulation at a height of 1.5 km in the Indian Ocean, adjoining Kanyakumari.

As a result, the trough off south-west Arabian Sea has extended towards south Karnataka.

This was the reason for the coastal belt and parts of south interior Karnataka receiving isolated rain.

But due to easterly winds, areas in north Karnataka also received rain early on Friday. Panambur near Mangalore recorded 33 mm rain; Gadag 53 mm and Chitradurga 6.6 mm.

Rain lashed Tumkur and Kunigal on Friday.

Isolated rain was reported in other parts of the district.

The unexpected rain at this of the year flooded roads in Tumkur.
