Sangam Literary Week celebration held in Pudukottai
|
LINGUISTIC PRIDE: Students dressed as Tamil scholars at a rally in Pudukottai.
PUDUKOTTAI: A rally, soulful performance by students of Government Music School and rendering of poems of the Sangam age marked the Sangam Literary Week celebration jointly conducted by Semmozhi Tamil Uyarayvu Maiyam and the Pudukottai town unit of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers’ Association here recently.
Town unit president of the association Thangam Moorthy presided over the festival.
Journalist Madukkur Ramalingam spoke on the topic ‘Tamil Thatta U. Ve. Sa.’ He recalled the yeoman services rendered by U. Ve. Swaminatha Iyer for promoting Tamil language and literature. He paid rich tributes to the late Tamil scholar’s untiring efforts to trace ancient Tamil literary works.
State deputy secretary of the association N. Muthunilavan spoke on the topic ‘Sangam literature is our literature’ and State deputy secretary poet Jeevi spoke on ‘Immortal Sangam literature.’ Poet Rasi Pannerselvam and Tamil professor of J.J. College of Arts and Science A. Selvaraj also spoke.
R. Thanikodi explained the decisions taken at the 10-day Sangam literary camp held in Madurai recently.
District president of the Association Rama Ramanathan distributed prizes to winners of competitions.
Pon Karuppiah and Meena Sundar rendered Sangam literature songs and Tirukkural.
Earlier, Tamil scholars and people from other walks of life participated in a literary rally taken out from Town Hall. The rally was flagged off by Kavithai Pithan, State Social Justice awardee.
Students of Sri Venkateswara Matriculation Higher Secondary School dressed as Tiruvalluvar, Bharathi, Veeramamunivar, Agathiar, Avvaiyar, Tamil Mother, Bharatha Mata enthralled the audience.
Members of Kamban Kazhagam, Tamilasiriyar Kazhagam, Pudukottai Ilakkiya Peravai, Ariviyal-Kalai Ilakkiya Peravai, Tholkappiyar Manram, Pattukottaiyar Ilakkiya Peravai, Pavendar Bharathidasan Ilakkiya Peravai, and Tirukkural Kazhagam participated in the festival.
A book titled ‘Sangha Tamil Karpom; Semmozhi Tamil Valarpom’ was distributed to all participants.
