Correspondent

The 40-member Andhra Rashtra Samiti team arrives in Vizianagaram

They submit memorandum to Collector

Padayatra will end at Anantapur

VIZIANAGARAM: The padayatra led by founder of Andhra Rashtra Samiti T. Surender Reddy that began at Arasavilli, the abode of Sri Suryanarayana Murty in Srikakulam district, on March 9 reached Vizianagaram on Saturday afternoon.

Braving the hot sun, the 40-member team that included women members covered Palakonda, Rajam, Therlam, Bobbili, Gajapathinagaram and Vizianagaram, demanding Andhra state.

After submitting a memorandum to Collector B. Kishore, Mr. Reddy lamented over the injustice meted out in employment and promotions even in government services.

‘Injustice’

Citing the woes of G.O. 610 victims, he told reporters that the eligibility for the police constable post in Telangana region was a pass in Class X whereas in Andhra region a pass in Intermediate was made compulsory. That apart, all the natural resources in the region were being utilised in units in Telangana region instead of establishing related units in this region, he added. In spite of having longer coastline than Gujarat, no major ports were developed and employment to locals created, Mr. Reddy said, and demanded construction of Kalingapatnam Port in Srikakulam district and clarity on waiver of farm loans.

He said that the padayatra would end in Anantapur probably by April 20. Samiti leaders Ch. Ramakrishna, P. Govindamma and others were present.
